Open Call for Muralists
The Creative Spaces Collective is looking for artists to submit work for consideration for the October 2021 Creative Spaces Mural Project. The Creative Spaces Mural Project is designed to encourage community pride and beautify the streets of Indiana County one wall at a time!
Murals will be installed in public places in Indiana County. The Collective anticipates selecting up to 3 artists to participate in this year's program. Selected artists will receive a stipend to paint their mural, and all of their material expenses covered.
The deadline for the application is September 20th, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST.
Selected artists will be notified by September 22nd, 2021.
Eligibility
This project is open to all artists living and working in Pennsylvania, with a focus on artists from Indiana County. The Commission encourages applications from both new and established artists. Artists may apply as an individual artist or as a group. Group submissions may be for a single wall.
Selection Process & Criteria
Submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee from the Creative Spaces Collective. Once the artists are selected, the committee will send a notification by email.
Criteria used to select artists will be:
Evaluation of artistic excellence including quality of the art and artist originality.
Ability to paint large scale murals in a timely manner.
Attention to the history, heritage, plants and animals of Indiana County in written proposal.
Appropriate regard for the nature of the space and the audience.
Submission Requirements:
website or online portfolio with images of previous work.
3-5 images of previous mural or public art work.
a short paragraph describing the image you would like to paint.
List of materials the artist may need for the production of this mural.
Mural Specifications:
The walls will vary in size, from 8ft long x10 ft tall, to 15ft long x 10ft tall.
All walls will be accessible through scaffolding or ladders that will be provided by the collective.
Once the artists are selected, the committee will reach out with the specific wall each artist will paint.
Once each artist sees their wall, they can begin their sketch and color selection through direct communication with the committee.
Insurance & Indemnification
Selected artists must sign a Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement.
Installation
Artists should plan to paint their mural between October 11th-17th, 2021.
How to Apply
All materials should be submitted through the Creative Collectives APPLICATION Portal Here. Proposals will be reviewed by the Creative Spaces Collective. All items must be included as part of the submission package or applications will not be reviewed.
