In 2019, Spruce Arts hosted dozens of artists in Indiana, Pennyslvania, sharing the creative culture of this community with artists from around the world. In 2020, Spruce Arts paused most in-person residencies and did more online programs. Spruce Arts hosted muralists in 2020, 2021, and 2022. This summer, Spruce Arts will welcome artists to Indiana County to engage with local artists, the arts community, and the beautiful environment

The 2023 Youth Mural Camp plans are underway! Artist and educator Jess Green will be facilitating this year’s mural camp, designed to inspire youth to become involved in the community and delight in their shared creativity. The camp is free to selected youth, who can apply via this form. Students must submit by April 15th, 2023 and they will be notified by April 30th, 2023 of their selection.

The Advisory Board of the Creative Spaces Collective invites proposals for creative projects located in Indiana County.

A local artist will be paired with an artist outside of the community with the goal that both of them will learn from each other over the course of four months via Zoom calls and other forms of communication. Artists will be expected to meet together a minimum of three times. The artists will work both together and independently to create an artwork for Indiana County, which will be unveiled and gifted to the community at the end of their mentorship program. The first round of artists will be announced in May 2023.

Four new murals were unveiled in Homer City this past month. Artists Ramiro Davaro-Comas, Frank the Painter, and Sea of Doom were painting in downtown Homer City for a week, creating murals that celebrate local animals.

The Artists Hand Gallery has installed bistro lighting that is strung across the parking lot, lighting up the beautiful mural that was created in 2021 by the Youth Mural camp participants. Led by Sarah Rutherford and Jess Green, this mural camp brought students together to learn a variety of mural techniques, including brushwork and spray painting.

The 2021 Youth Mural project was documented by filmmaker Maddie Jones and photographer Brianna Adkins. The documentary film and photo essay were published and unvielded to the public today. Enjoy hearing about the experience of the artists and the community involvement in this creative documentations of the camp.

Dripped on the Road, a group of travel artists who painted murals in Indiana last year, will be coming to Blairsville this fall to create murals for local buildings, according to Blairsville officials.

The Creative Spaces Collective is inviting High School students and local artists from Indiana County to participate in the first ever Youth Mural Project this September 2021.

Five years ago, an artist residency conducted through Indiana University of Pennsylvania painted a series of murals on the wall of the Indiana Theater.

This week, another residency is underway, as The Spruce Art Residency program will be hosting muralists from the organization Dripped On The Road as the latest artists in residence.
